Common Questions

What are the site viewing requirements?

This site was designed to be browser-independent, but works best when viewed with a modern browser.

These images have been optimized for presentation on a 1024x768 display, using 16 million colors. At this resolution, the full range of colors or greys is distinguishable and provides for quite realistic viewing.

If your display is not configured to show 16 million colors, the pictures tend to appear blotchy and bear little resemblance to the originals.

The image sizes range from 50kb to 70kb in size, so a higher-speed connection is an asset.

Some of the images look blurry, why is that?

The quality of the original photographic images is sharp and crisp. The published images are digitized at a low resolution, so the web images may appear blurry.

You will be well pleased with how much clearer and more detailed your original print looks, when compared to the images on this web site.

What is photographic art?

Photography is another medium and expression of art, which many do not readily understand.

In general, the public believes that a photograph is less artistic than a painting. It is just a ‘snap’ that anyone can take with the pressing of a button. Consequently, recognition and appreciation of black and white Fine ArtPhotography has been slow outside the main cultural centers of photography such as New York, London, Paris, Zurich, Munchen and a few other places.

In this field of art, people should learn to understand some of the processes that go into the making of a Fine Art black and white Photograph to fully appreciate it. It requires much time to create such a photograph from concept to a finished archival print.

Fine Art photographs must have technical quality, be esthetically pleasing and appealing, but must also convey feeling and meaning that the viewer can identify with and relate to.
